Did You Know
Currently only about 13% of LA high school students obtain post-secondary degrees within six years of graduation.
84% of Louisiana public school students live at or below the poverty line.
In high schools utilizing career coaches, over 40% of students who didn’t originally have plans to attend a post-secondary institution changed their minds when they met with the career coach.
The overall college-going rate for public high school graduates in Louisiana was 46% for the '05-06 school year.
92% of the students Career Compass worked with in the '07-08 school year applied to and/or were accepted to a post-secondary institution by high school graduation.
News & Notes
We had an amazing year. Our results were incredible, proving what we have always said…that with one-on-one assistance by someone who cares, the student will apply to a college or technical school. In East Baton Rouge Parish, 92% of our students applied to a post-secondary school.
On Thursday, May 15, the EBRP School Board approved our proposal to provide college and career coaching to 2,000 high school seniors for the 2008-09 school year.
