Baton Rouge, LA – August 22, 2018 – Career Compass of Louisiana, a nonprofit organization focused on improving Louisiana students’ access to college and career pathways, will hold its annual training for its statewide corps of 84 college & career coaches and leadership team members. Career Compass coaches will serve in hundreds of public schools across the state in more than half the state’s parishes this year.
James Merritt, also known as DJ DEAF (“Don’t Ever Accept Failure”), will give the opening remarks on the first day. The popular Baton Rouge-based DJ is the official DJ for The Harlem Globetrotters. He is also a successful radio personality, business owner, real estate investor, and motivational speaker.
Other speakers will conduct workshops and breakout sessions throughout the two-day event.

WHY: The two-day intensive training experience in Baton Rouge brings together the statewide coaching team and prepares them to engage with an estimated 32,000 Louisiana public school students. This is the kickoff event for the 2018-19 school year, and it sets the tone for the entire year. Coaches depart inspired and armed with knowledge and tools to help students overcome any obstacle to post-secondary success.
