Career programs for students is topic of parent meeting

Article published in the East Iberville-INC Newsletter

Students interested in getting training for careers in everything from process technology to health occupations, or even college scholarships, can get plenty of help right at East Iberville High School.

That was the message of officials and program leaders to parents attending the Parents Night program held November 18. The event was coordinated by East Iberville- INC and the school system. Parents of all 9th through 12th graders were invited. Representatives of Career Compass, the parish’s workforce development and dual enrollment program, the Job Corps, the PTEC program, and the Iberville Math, Science & Arts Academy all presented overviews on how they can help East Iberville High students plan and train for a career while in high school.

East Iberville-INC has also funded career counseling for all students in 9th through 11th grades at East Iberville High. The school system is funding the counseling for the seniors.

Parents who were unable to attend the Parents Night can get information from the school guidance counselor.

WHAT DO THE STATISTICS SHOW ABOUT COLLEGE GRADUATES?

Only 46% of Louisiana high school graduates enter a post-secondary school when they graduate. Only 13% will earn a 2 or 4-year degree within six years.

99% of the students who work with Career Compass applied to and/or were accepted to a post-secondary school they could successfully attend beyond high school graduation. And of that number, 80% are still attending school!
