Career Compass is a "hands on" organization offering college and career coaching to high school students in 11 school districts. Although no student is turned away, we target the disadvantaged students of the parish. Over 75% of the students in the public school system are on free or reduced lunch and considered "at-risk." We maintain a weekly presence at area high schools, making the following services available to the students during school hours:

  • We provide available resources and materials to assist students in the college and/or post-secondary school selection, application procedure and career planning.
  • We provide assistance in filling out the complicated paperwork involving with pursuing a post-secondary education (ACT/SAT applications, FAFSA Forms, post-secondary school applications, NCAA clearinghouse forms, immunization records, scholarship applications, forms for government assistance programs, etc.)
  • We provide, on a needs basis, scholarships for application fees to students.
  • We make appointments for students to visit local campuses and connect students with appropriate personnel at these schools.
  • We maintain a website, careercompassla.org, which includes a "one stop access" page with links to the post-secondary schools in and around the Baton Rouge area. Students can visit the post-secondary schools' website and apply online anytime. Also provided on the website is a link to all of the forms students may encounter as they prepare for education after high school.
